Five Os Improve to 15-0 After Wins Over Falls, Pewaukee

The Five Os swept another huge LOL weekend with close wins over Menomonee Falls on Saturday and Pewaukee on Sunday.
Oconomowoc 6, Menomonee Falls 5
Oconomowoc fell behind early. After striking out the side to open the game in the top of the 1st, Falls put 2 runs on the board in the bottom of the 1st after 2 hits, a walk, hit batter and error. Oconomowoc was able to chip away that lead and got 1 in the 3rd on a 2 out single by Derek Nelson which scored Mike Barker who started the rally with a walk. They tied the game in the top of the 5th when Jeff Rhoads doubled and was brought home on a double by Derek Nelson. Falls jumped back on top in the bottom of the 6th when they put 2 runs on the board to put the score at 4-2. Once again, Oconomowoc was able to tie the game by scoring 2 runs in the top of the 7th when Tim Schlosser led off the inning by getting hit by a pitch and was brought home on a triple by speedster Luke Nelson. (At the beginning of the season Luke predicted 9 triples on the year). Luke was then brought home on a groundout by Jeff Rhoads. Mike Barker started another two out rally in the top of the 8th by drawing another fantastic walk. Tim Schlosser then doubled and Luke Nelson singled to put Oconomowoc on top 6-4. Things stayed that way until the bottom of the 9th when Falls pushed one run across before loading the bases with 2 outs. Chris Price then grounded out on a close play at frist to end the game.
Leading Oconomowoc was pitcher Luke Nelson. Luke threw a complete game giving up 3 earned runs, 8 hits, 4 walks, 1 hit batter while striking out 11. Luke was also 2 for 5 at the plate with a triple and 2 RBIs. Jeff Rhoads and Derek Nelson also had 2 hits each.

Oconomowoc 5, Pewaukee 3
Unlike against Falls the day before, the Five Os were able to jump on the board in the 1st with a run. Luke Nelson singled with one out and Jeff Rhoads followed that up with a triple to left center field. However the lead was short lived after Pewaukee's lead off hitter Kurt Sarcia led off the bottom of the first with a double, was sacraficied over too 3rd and scored on a ground ball to make the score 1-1. The Five Os regained the lead with a run in the top of the 3rd when Tim Schlosser led off with a single and was eventually brought home on a fielders choice by Derek Nelson. Each team traded 2 runs in the 6th to make the score 4-3. The runs for Oconomowoc came after back-to-back doubles by Mike Mitchell and Josh Bouche and a single by Mike Bolson. Oconomowoc added an insurance run in the top of the 9th and sealed the 5-3 victory.
Leading Oconomowoc was rookie Josh Bouche who was 4 for 4 with a double and RBI. Luke Nelson was also 3 for 4 at the plate. On the mound, Rob Becker earned the win going 7 innings giving up 2 earned runs, 6 hits, 2 walks while striking out 3. When Becker got in trouble in the bottom of the 8th, Matt Schref came in and mowed down 6 batters while walking one in the final two innings. Gloating with pride Matt's dad was impressed not so much with his son's performance on the mound picking up the save, but instead with the extremely low pitch count. "A performance like that only requires little to moderate icing of the shoulder. I will sleep well tonight," stated Matt's father.
The wins put Oconomowoc at 15-0 in the LOL West. They play their final Tri County game of the year on Wednesday before getting back to LOL action with a game at Monches on Sunday. Game time on Wednesday is 7:30 pm and 1:00 pm on Sunday.
