The Five Os got their first Tri County Night League win of the season and improved to 1-1 (3-1 overall) with a win over Rubicon on Wednesday night. The Five Os got on the board first in the three and a half marathon game with 5 runs in the bottom of the 1st. Tyler Malay led off by getting hit by a pitch. 4 walks and 2 singles later in the inning brought 5 of the first 6 hitters for Oconomowoc in to score. Rubicon eventually came back to take the lead with a run in the 2nd and 5 in the top of the 5th off starter Derek Nelson. The Five Os answered right back and regained the lead in the bottom of the 5th with 2 runs. Josh Fenzl led off with a single and moved to third on a double by Mike Barker. With 2 outs, Tyler Malay singled both runners in for Oconomowoc. Oconomowoc scored three more runs in the 6th and were able to hold off Rubicon for the win.
Derek Nelson led Oconomowoc both on the mound and at the plate. Derek threw a completed game, allowing 12 hits, walking 1, hitting 3 and striking out 15. At the plate he was 4 for 4 with a walk, 2 runs scored and 1 RBI. Newcomer Mike Barker contributed 2 hits to the winning effort.
The win puts Oconomowoc at 1-1 in the Tri County Night League and 3-1 overall. Their next matchup is a key LOL battle against Pewaukee. Both Oconomowoc and Pewaukee are 2-0 in the LOL West. Game time is 1:00 pm in Oconomowoc.
